Local authorities in Marib Governorate (northeastern Yemen) on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, called on humanitarian partners to mobilize support and funding for the construction of a specialized infectious disease hospital in the province.

This appeal was made during a comprehensive coordination meeting held in Marib City, bringing together local authorities and humanitarian partners from UN, international, regional, and local organizations working in the humanitarian field in the governorate. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Governor Abdulربه مفتاح, according to the official Yemeni news agency Saba.

"Miftah" confirmed the local authorities' readiness to provide a dedicated plot of land for the construction of the infectious disease hospital project. He highlighted the "increasing prevalence of such diseases in the governorate, particularly with the rise in cases of food insecurity and weakened immunity, most notably tuberculosis."

He stated that "the humanitarian situation in the governorate is worsening and requires further coordination and intensified efforts to address existing and potential challenges, and the growing needs, especially in light of the significant decline in funding that has impacted humanitarian interventions and the humanitarian situation."

He emphasized the "importance of strengthening the capacities of the clusters leading humanitarian work in each of the six key sectors," noting that this is "the guarantee for the distribution of projects based on needs, priorities, comprehensiveness, and fairness, and for not dealing with or recognizing any clusters formed outside humanitarian work in political aspects that could affect emergency and sustainable humanitarian programs."

According to the agency, the meeting was organized by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). During the meeting, the Executive Unit for the Management of IDP Camps in Marib presented a report on the humanitarian situation.

The unit (governmental) discussed the gap between needs and interventions, assessed the level of implementation of humanitarian intervention plans for the first and second quarters, and provided a summary of the humanitarian needs plan for Marib Governorate, which was recently launched by the local authorities for the years 2024/2025. It also highlighted the key challenges and difficulties facing humanitarian work.
