Abdulrahman al-Mahrami (Abu Zar'a), a member of the Presidential Leadership Council and commander of the Giant Brigades, vowed on Saturday, August 3, 2024, to pursue those responsible for the killing of one of the Giant Brigades officers and to support security forces in "drying up the sources of terrorism."
The statement was released by the official Yemeni news agency Saba, which mourned the death of Captain Sultan Bajash al-Subaihi, an officer in the Second Giant Brigade. Al-Subaihi was killed when a bomb detonated near his car in the Fayush area of Lahj governorate on Saturday.
In the statement, al-Mahrami, nicknamed "Abu Zar'a," expressed his condolences to al-Subaihi's family and described him as "an example of discipline, courage, and initiative in the fields of honor and heroism, carrying out the tasks entrusted to him by his leadership."
He asserted that "such cowardly terrorist acts will not deter the heroes of the Giant Forces from performing their national duty in confronting the enemy, strengthening security and stability, and fighting extremist organizations and anyone who targets the public peace of citizens."
Al-Mahrami vowed in the statement of mourning to "pursue those who carried out this cowardly terrorist act, apprehend them, and bring them before the competent authorities so that they receive their deterrent punishment, and to support the security forces in drying up the sources of terrorism and its organizations."
Earlier on Saturday, local sources in Lahj governorate (south Yemen) reported an explosion targeting a car belonging to an officer in the Southern Giant Brigades in the Fayush area of Tiban district, on the road connecting Lahj and Aden governorates.
Sources told "Barran Press" that the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device targeting the car of "Sultan Bajash al-Atri," one of the guards of the Second Giant Brigade commander, Brigadier General Hamdi Shukri. They added that all those who were with al-Atri, most of whom were women, were injured in the incident and were transported to hospitals in Aden for treatment.
Later, medical and media sources confirmed the death of officer al-Subaihi, succumbing to his injuries sustained in the explosion that targeted his car.
