Local sources reported on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, that two camels were killed by lightning strikes in Shabwah Governorate (eastern Yemen), which experienced thunderstorms in recent hours.
Sources told "Barran Press" that lightning strikes killed the camels in an open area in the "Jardan" district, north of Shabwah Governorate, in a rare occurrence in the desert and low-lying areas.
The sources explained that the lightning strikes broke the necks of the camels, causing their immediate death in a strange and rare event that the district had never witnessed before.
With the onset of the autumn rainy season, lightning strike incidents have increased. "Bran Press" has recorded, since the beginning of July, the deaths of 39 people, including women and children, and the injury of 17 others, as well as the death of approximately 75 livestock due to lightning strikes in several governorates.
