The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Tuesday evening, August 6, 2024, the destruction of a drone and two anti-ship ballistic missiles, hours after announcing the destruction of five drones and a ballistic missile belonging to the Iran-backed Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization by the international community.

In a statement published on X, CENTCOM stated: "Over the past 24 hours, US Central Command forces successfully destroyed a drone and two anti-ship ballistic missiles belonging to the Iran-backed Houthis over the Red Sea, launched from areas controlled by the group."

The statement added that these weapons "posed a clear and imminent threat to US forces, coalition forces, and commercial vessels in the region," noting that "this reckless and dangerous behavior by the Iran-backed Houthis threatens regional stability and security."

Earlier on Tuesday, CENTCOM reported the destruction of five drones and an anti-ship ballistic missile in areas controlled by the Houthis in Yemen.

In a statement published on their X page, seen by "Barran Press", they stated that their forces successfully destroyed three drones belonging to the Iran-backed Houthis over the Gulf of Aden during the past 24 hours.

According to the statement, CENTCOM forces also managed to destroy a drone in a Houthi-controlled area in Yemen, as well as a drone boat, an anti-ship ballistic missile, and a drone in the Red Sea.

Since November 2023, the Houthi group has launched attacks using missiles and drones against commercial cargo ships in the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, and the Gulf of Aden off the coast of Yemen, claiming they are in support of Gaza, which is facing a war of extermination by Israel.

The group's attacks have led to increased maritime insurance costs and prompted many international shipping companies to opt for the much longer route around the southern tip of the African continent.

To deter the Houthis, the US-led "Guardians of Prosperity" coalition, which includes Britain as a key participant, began airstrikes on Houthi positions in Yemen in January 2024. The group subsequently expanded its operations to target vessels associated with Washington and London, according to their announcements.

In the two weeks following the Israeli occupation's attack on the port of Hodeidah (western Yemen) on July 20, 2024, there have been no recorded attacks by the Houthi group, which is internationally designated as a terrorist organization and supported by Iran.
