The Deputy Minister of Local Administration for Financial and Administrative Affairs in the internationally recognized Yemeni government, Abdul Latif al-Fajir, has called for immediate intervention to rescue and provide aid to those affected by ongoing heavy rains and floods in Hodeidah governorate, western Yemen.

Al-Fajir stated in a statement to "Barran Press" that he had contacted the governor of Hodeidah, Hassan Taher, to assess the humanitarian situation in the governorate and coordinate efforts in response to the disaster caused by the torrential rains and floods across various districts.

He highlighted the devastation caused by the floods, including casualties, land erosion, destruction of homes and property, and livestock deaths. He urged local and international humanitarian and relief organizations to swiftly intervene to rescue and provide aid to the affected population.

According to Al-Fajir, the governor of Hodeidah outlined the initial losses, stating that most of the homes destroyed by the floods were simple structures, such as shacks, built with the limited resources of the local population.

The governor also reported a number of missing individuals, including three soldiers from the government forces stationed along the front lines. Al-Fajir noted that search efforts are ongoing for all missing persons.

He indicated that evacuation and rescue operations are continuing, utilizing the limited resources available to the governorate, as the Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization by the international community, controls most of the governorate's and the Tihama region's capabilities.

On Tuesday evening, August 6, Hodeidah experienced torrential rains, resulting in the flooding of entire neighborhoods in several areas of the governorate.

Sources told "Barran Press" that the situation in the Tihama plain of Hodeidah is catastrophic, with destructive floods sweeping through neighborhoods, villages, and farms. The continuous rains since Tuesday afternoon have caused significant human and material losses.

Sources reported dozens of missing individuals, including children, women, and elderly people, who were swept away by the floods on Tuesday night from the "Al-Ruqoud" area in the "Zubid" district, the "Al-Zein" village in the "Al-Qanaous" district, and the "Al-Lawaiya" village in the "Al-Durihemi" district of Hodeidah.

The sources confirmed that dozens of homes have been destroyed by the floods, including one that collapsed on a family, killing the father and mother, and two women drowning in the "Al-Sahl" village in Al-Durihemi.

The sources noted the lack of any action by the de facto authorities in Hodeidah, controlled by the Houthi group, to assist the people of Tihama following the significant damage caused by the heavy rains, which resulted in unprecedented floods for the governorate.

As of this report (6:00 PM), no casualty figures or estimates of material losses caused by the floods in Tihama have been released. This may be due to the lack of media coverage of the scale of the disaster that has struck Hodeidah.
