Three Yemeni governorates witnessed lightning strikes on Sunday, August 11, 2024, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, the burning of crops, and the loss of livestock. This brings the total number of lightning strike victims in Yemen to 62, including fatalities and injuries, since the beginning of July.

Local sources in Hajjah governorate (northwestern Yemen) told "Barran Press" that a lightning strike killed a man named "Fouad Ali Mohammed Moqdam" in the village of "Al-Wa'liyah" in the Al-Muftah district on Sunday evening.

The same sources added that another lightning strike hit a village in the Al-Mahabish district of Hajjah, killing a man named "Ahmed Ali Abdullah Al-Asadi."

In Ma'rib governorate (northeastern Yemen),  "Barran Press" correspondent reported that lightning strikes accompanying heavy rains and thunderstorms on Sunday morning caused the burning of orange trees, damage to homes, and the death of seven livestock in the "Al-Juboul" area on the outskirts of Ma'rib city.

Meanwhile, in Jawf governorate (northeastern Yemen), a lightning strike on Sunday evening burned down a date palm farm in the Al-Hazm district, the governorate's center.

With the onset of the autumn rainy season, lightning strike incidents have increased. "Barran Press" has documented 43 deaths, including women and children, and 17 injuries due to lightning strikes in several governorates since the beginning of July. This brings the total number of fatalities to 45 and injuries to 17.
