Hodeidah, Yemen - A civilian worker was injured on Tuesday, August 13th, when a mine detonator exploded while he was working at a scrap metal shop in Hays district, south of Hodeidah governorate, according to the Yemeni Ministry of Interior.

The Ministry's statement, released by the Security Media Center, identified the worker as "A. M.," 30 years old, who sustained multiple injuries to his right foot and left leg, as well as shrapnel wounds to his body. The incident occurred while he was attempting to separate iron from metal by striking the mine detonator.

The statement further revealed that police recovered 22 detonators with needles from the scrap metal shop owned by "M. A. M." The shop owner accused the injured worker of purchasing the detonators, claiming he was unaware of their dangerous nature.

The police have detained the shop owner pending further investigation, while the injured worker was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Hodeidah governorate is one of the most heavily mined areas in Yemen, with the internationally recognized terrorist group, the Houthis, having planted numerous mines disguised in various forms. These mines have been placed in residential areas, farms, and major roads, posing a significant threat to civilians.
