Two young girls tragically drowned in a pool of flash flood runoff in Yemen's Hodeidah governorate on Tuesday, August 13th, 2024, according to local sources.
The sources told "Barran Press" that Rawda Ali Ismail Mahmoud (25) drowned in a large pool of water in the Hies district, south of Hodeidah. Alongside her, Zeina Ali Saeed Bard (17) also perished in the floodwaters.
The sources confirmed that both girls died immediately after drowning, despite efforts by locals to rescue them. The depth of the water in the pool made rescue efforts impossible. The sources further highlighted that the flash flood runoff in Hodeidah has created vast lakes of water, posing a significant threat to residents due to the risk of drowning and the spread of disease.
The floods that struck Hodeidah on Thursday, August 8th, 2024, have resulted in at least 45 deaths and the disappearance of over 100 others, with communication severed. Over 500 homes have been destroyed, and thousands of families have been displaced either due to damage to their homes or fear of further rainfall.
