The Executive Unit for the Management of IDP Camps in Marib has reported that the death toll from flash floods and storms that have ravaged the governorate has risen to 18, including 8 fatalities and 10 injuries.

In a brief statement seen by "Barran Press" on Tuesday, August 13th, 2024, the Executive Unit stated that the number of flood-related deaths in Marib has climbed to 8, with an additional 10 people sustaining injuries since last Sunday.

Last Sunday, the Executive Unit announced the deaths of four displaced individuals and injuries to 10 others due to flash floods and storms accompanied by lightning strikes in Marib (northeastern Yemen).

Since the beginning of August, heavy rainfall has intensified, causing flash floods across several Yemeni governorates, including Marib, resulting in significant human casualties and material damage.

Estimates indicate that at least 45 individuals have perished, over 100 are missing with communication lost, and more than 500 homes have been destroyed. Thousands of families have been displaced due to damaged homes or fear of renewed rainfall.

Yemen suffers from severe infrastructure weakness, exacerbating the impact of the floods and adding to the misery of residents already struggling with fragile essential services due to the ongoing civil war that began nearly 10 years ago.
