These incidents come as the United Nations reports a significant increase in the number of people affected by the recent floods across Yemen. According to the UN, the number has doubled since last week, reaching 180,000 individuals.
The UN Population Fund (UNFPA) attributes the widespread damage and displacement to exceptionally heavy seasonal rains. The report emphasizes that these floods further exacerbate the already dire humanitarian situation in Yemen, which has been grappling with a protracted conflict for over nine years.
The hardest-hit governorates include Hodeidah, Hajjah, Marib, Sa'ada, and Taiz. The UN report cites local authorities and humanitarian partners, who estimate that nearly 180,000 people have been affected by the floods.
