The head of the General People's Congress branch in Marib Governorate (northeastern Yemen), Abdulwahed Al-Qabli Nimeran, stated on Friday, August 23, that the social and political awareness in Marib "represented an epic that changed the course of the conflict and managed to alter its trajectory on different levels."

In a statement to "Barran Press," marking the 42nd anniversary of the General People's Congress's founding, Al-Qabli called upon "free" national forces to "unite ranks and engage in genuine and equitable partnership in managing public affairs."

The Marib branch head said, "Today, we celebrate the anniversary of the Congress's founding amidst difficult and complex circumstances that our country is experiencing due to the Iran-backed, theocratic militia coup and its ensuing destruction, displacement, and terrorism. The consequences have resulted in over 350,000 casualties, three million displaced people, a devastated economy, and a dire situation in all aspects of life."

Al-Qabli considered the birth of the General People's Congress "a representation of the path of moderation within a national political environment characterized by a certain degree of political seriousness. It served as the fulcrum for a broad national alliance committed to the objectives of the September and October revolutions, adopting a new approach to politics through moderation, dialogue, and containment."

He emphasized that the Marib branch of the Congress "remained steadfast in its commitment to God, the nation, and the republican system during challenging times, including the fall of the capital and the subsequent events. We positioned ourselves alongside our people and the local community in Marib, and the leadership of the local authority, represented by the valiant Major General Sultan Al-Arada, provided us with unwavering support along with our comrades in the political and vibrant social forces."

He highlighted the necessity of "activating state institutions at all levels, including security, military, political, oversight, and accountability," urging the Presidential Leadership Council and the Arab Coalition to swiftly implement the outcomes of the dialogue and establish a federal state and regional governance.

Al-Qabli deemed the lifting of sanctions on Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh and his late father, the former president, "a positive step in the right direction to improve the climate for peace and a prelude to removing the country from Chapter VII of the UN Charter, while ensuring accountability for the leaders of the theocratic militia coup."

Marib Governorate (northeastern Yemen) is set to host the official celebration of the 42nd anniversary of the General People's Congress on Saturday. The party was founded on August 24, 1982, under the leadership of the late President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who remained at the helm of the party until his death at the hands of the Houthis in his Sana'a residence in 2017.
