On Saturday, August 24, 2024, former Yemeni Vice President General Ali Mohsen Saleh al-Ahmar commemorated the 42nd anniversary of the General People's Congress (GPC) by praising the 1980s as a "decade of the Congress, the state, achievement, and unity," claiming that the country was "free from any opposition or political prisoners" during this period.

In a post on the X platform, monitored by Barran Press, al-Ahmar called for the "inspiration of the lessons learned from the experience of establishing the Congress and the eternal principles of the National Charter." He believes this will "preserve Yemen's glory and the cohesion and unity of its sons against the trends of racism and projects of superiority and enslavement, foremost among them the trend of replicating the sectarian Twelverism and the guardianship of the jurist, which are alien to our identity, our beliefs, and the moderate path of our people."

Al-Ahmar highlighted the GPC's "inspiring political and organizational experience" that embraced "all segments of the people, regardless of their classifications and orientations." He emphasized that Yemenis "united under one banner" and achieved "unprecedented successes in the history of the republic in security, stability, and development" within a few years.

His post included two photos from the GPC's founding event on August 24, 1982, showing him alongside several prominent figures and founders of the party.

Meanwhile, a celebratory event in the city of Marib marked the anniversary with speeches from local authorities, provincial governors, military and security leaders, political parties, government officials, tribal leaders, social figures, female leaders from various political forces, and a large gathering of citizens and GPC members.
