Shabwah, Yemen - The director general of the General Authority for Roads and Bridges in Shabwah governorate, engineer Awad Diman, said on Sunday, August 25th, that his branch is working diligently to mitigate damage to roads in the governorate caused by increased rainfall and strong winds this year.

In a statement to Barran Press, Diman confirmed that the branch is currently addressing flood damage on the Ataq-Bayhan road by constructing concrete culverts and protecting roadsides.

He added that the branch is working to remove sand from the Ataq-Al-Ubar International Road and the main road between Shabwah and Hadramaut, which passes through the Nashma area and Radhum district in eastern Shabwah.

Diman noted that work continues to remove sand from the Ataq-Bayhan road and the coastal road (Aden-Abyan-Shabwah-Hadramaut) in the Arqa area of Shabwah.

He explained that roads in Shabwah governorate have suffered significant damage this year due to heavy rainfall, large floods, and strong winds, which have caused sand dunes to encroach rapidly on main roads passing through desert and coastal areas.

Climate change affecting the earth has contributed to increased rainfall and monsoon winds in Yemen this year, leading to road damage from floods and increased sand dune
