The National Center of Meteorology and Early Warning issued a warning on Monday, August 26th, 2024, predicting heavy rains and thunderstorms in 13 governorates across Yemen in the coming hours. The capital Sana'a recorded the highest rainfall in the past 24 hours.
According to the center's daily bulletin, seen by Barran Press, the rainfall recorded in the past 24 hours at various weather stations was as follows: Sana'a: 45mm, Ibb: 12.9mm, Saada: 1.2mm, Seyoun: 1mm. Thunderstorms of varying intensity were reported outside the range of weather stations.
The center forecasts heavy to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, strong downdrafts, and hailstorms in the highlands of Taiz, Ibb, Al-Dhale, Dhamar, Rima, Sana'a, Amran, Al-Mahwit, Hajjah, and Saada governorates. The rainfall is expected to extend westward to include the Tihama plain and the western coast of Lahj, Hodeidah, and Taiz governorates.
The center also predicted moderate to light rainfall with thunderstorms in Al-Bayda, Mahra, Hadhramaut, Aden, and the highlands of Shabwa, Abyan, and Lahj governorates, as well as scattered areas in Marib and Al-Jawf governorates.
The center issued a warning against venturing into valleys and wadis during flash floods. It urged official authorities to take necessary measures to protect lives and property and to follow its bulletins and reports.
The warning also cautioned against thunderstorms, strong downdrafts, hailstorms, reduced horizontal visibility due to rainfall and low-lying clouds, rockfalls on mountain roads, and collapses of mud and traditional buildings due to persistent rainfall.
