The manager of the Marib Dam project, engineer Ahmed Al-Arifi, confirmed on Monday, August 26th, 2024, that the water levels reaching the dam are within safe limits and the dam's capacity to hold more floodwaters remains significant, even with ongoing water discharge.

Al-Arifi provided this update to Marib Governorate Deputy Governor Ali Al-Fatimi, who inspected the historic Marib Dam and the amount of water flowing into it in recent days following heavy rains that continue to batter the governorate, according to the governorate's official website.

Al-Arifi explained that the water level reaching the dam as of today, according to the latest measurement, is 348 million cubic meters, while the amount of water discharged from the dam after its gate was opened at the beginning of this week is 3 million cubic meters per day.

He noted that water discharge from the dam will continue for five months during the current wheat planting season to irrigate 7,400 hectares through irrigation canals branching off from the main dam and its associated diversion dams.

Deputy Governor Al-Fatimi urged farmers to preserve the dam's canals and the discharged water, considering it a blessing from God and a promise of a bountiful agricultural season in the governorate, particularly for wheat cultivation, and a boost to groundwater levels.

He emphasized that the local authorities are paying special attention to the maintenance of the Marib Dam, extending its lifespan, and strengthening its resilience, recognizing it as a vital source of water resources that are essential for life, stability, and agricultural and livestock production.
