Marib, Yemen - Local authorities in Marib governorate, northeastern Yemen, met with the international organization "Accept" on Tuesday, August 27th, to discuss increasing the organization's humanitarian interventions in the region. The meeting comes amid a growing humanitarian needs gap and a deteriorating humanitarian situation for displaced persons and host communities.

The meeting, according to the official Yemeni news agency Saba, was held between Marib Deputy Governor  Abdurabbu Muftah and Accept International Executive Director Yosuke Nagai and the organization's Yemen Country Director Amjad Anwar.

The meeting reviewed the humanitarian situation in Marib, which "has absorbed over 62% of the displaced persons in Yemen," and the negative impacts of economic deterioration, climate change, the ongoing conflict, and forced displacement from areas controlled by the Houthi group, classified as a terrorist organization, on the lives and livelihoods of displaced persons and the host community in the governorate. The meeting highlighted the increasing number of families living below the poverty line and facing food insecurity.

Deputy Governor Muftah emphasized the organization's humanitarian role in supporting education and protection, as well as implementing various projects and programs related to rehabilitation and reintegration into society and providing cash assistance.

He expressed the local authorities' hope for a broader role for the organization and Japanese contributions to humanitarian interventions, particularly in sustainable projects that enhance the local authorities' capacity to provide basic services, meet the needs of displaced persons and host communities, and improve livelihoods.

According to Saba, the organization's Executive Director explained that his visit to the governorate was part of his interest in assessing the humanitarian situation on the ground by visiting a number of displacement camps and strengthening humanitarian partnerships with local authorities to alleviate the humanitarian crisis.
