Heavy rains and flash floods continue to devastate parts of Yemen, claiming the lives of at least two people and leaving a soldier missing.
On Tuesday, August 27th, a young man identified as Abdullah Saeed Abdullah Al-Marqashi drowned in the "Bana" wadi in Abyan governorate, southern Yemen. Al-Marqashi was attempting to cross the wadi in the "Al-Diew" area of Khunfur district when he was swept away by the floodwaters. Despite search efforts, his body has yet to be recovered.
Sources to "Barran Press" In Shabwa governorate, eastern Yemen, reported that a military vehicle carrying soldiers from the Shabwa Defense Forces was swept away by flash floods originating from Mount "Luqman" in the "Mbalqa" area of Ain district. The vehicle was reportedly washed off its course, forcing the soldiers to abandon it after losing control. One soldier is still missing, and his whereabouts remain unknown.
These incidents come amidst a period of heavy rainfall and flash floods that have been battering Yemen since late July, resulting in the deaths of dozens, displacement of hundreds of thousands, and countless missing persons.
Earlier this week, a video captured the tragic drowning of a child, Mohammed Ahmed Al-Dilmi, while swimming in the floodwaters of the Sana'a stream.
The United Nations has warned that the severe weather conditions in Yemen are expected to persist until September, raising concerns about the potential for further casualties and widespread damage.
The recent incidents highlight the urgent need for increased preparedness and response efforts to mitigate the impact of these devastating floods and protect vulnerable communities.
