HADRAMAUT, YEMEN - Yemeni army units have seized a quantity of heroin at the Al-Wadi'ah border crossing with Saudi Arabia, marking the third such bust in a week, a military source reported on Wednesday, August 28, 2024.

According to the Yemeni Ministry of Defense website "September Net," units belonging to the 23rd Mechanized Brigade stationed in the Al-Wadi'ah triangle in Hadramaut Governorate intercepted 200 grams of heroin while it was being smuggled into Saudi Arabia.

The commander of the 23rd Mechanized Brigade, Brigadier General Abdullah Maazib, stated that this was not the first such seizure, highlighting the brigade's high security awareness, efficiency, and vigilance. He emphasized that the brigade's forces will remain a formidable barrier against criminal gangs attempting to destroy communities and undermine their youth through drugs, which have devastating consequences for mental health, social cohesion, and national security.

On August 26, the 23rd Mechanized Brigade announced the seizure of 550 grams of heroin at the Al-Wadi'ah triangle in Hadramaut Governorate while it was being smuggled into Saudi Arabia.

Last Wednesday, August 21, the brigade reported the seizure of a quantity of narcotics pills during a smuggling attempt into Saudi Arabia.

According to "September Net," the 23rd Mechanized Brigade has seized a total of 22,667 narcotic pills during smuggling attempts into Saudi Arabia.
