7-Year-Old Yemeni Boy with Thalassemia Dies After Being Swept Away by Flash Floods

Hajah, Yemen - A seven-year-old boy, suffering from thalassemia, tragically died after being swept away by flash floods in La'ah Valley, Hajah governorate (northwest Yemen) on Monday, September 2, 2024.

Local sources told "Barran Press" that the child, identified as Abdo Ali Ja'shan, was returning home with his father from a hospital in Bani Qais district when they encountered the surging floodwaters. The father managed to escape, but was unable to save his son.

The boy had been receiving regular treatment for thalassemia at the hospital.

Since late July, Yemen has experienced heavy rainfall across several governorates, resulting in the deaths of dozens and affecting nearly a quarter of a million people, particularly those living in displacement camps. Hundreds of homes have also been damaged.
