A recent research paper has suggested that the decision to change the leadership of the local authority in Taiz, a province in southwestern Yemen, should remain under consideration, with the possibility of a decision being made at any time without being tied to a specific deadline.

The paper, published by the Mokha Center for Strategic Studies, and reviewed by "Barran Press", argues that setting a six-month timeframe for the leadership change could imply a lack of immediate intention to alter the local leadership, regardless of performance.

During a visit to Taiz in late August, the President of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, gave the local authorities six months to improve their performance and strengthen the presence of state institutions in the province.

Regarding the development projects initiated in Taiz by President Al-Alimi during his visit, with support from the Saudi Program for the Reconstruction of Yemen, the paper highlighted their potential to bolster the province's resilience and support efforts to liberate it from Houthi control.

The paper emphasized the importance of completing these projects within the planned timeframe, warning that delays could lead to frustration among the population, potentially damaging one of the key popular bases of support for the legitimate government and the Presidential Leadership Council.

The paper recommended the effective implementation of development projects in Taiz with the participation of all relevant parties, and for President Al-Alimi to closely monitor their execution.

The paper also addressed the challenges faced by the legitimate government in Taiz, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the relationship between local authorities, the legitimate government, and the Presidential Leadership Council to ensure stability and support popular resistance efforts.

The paper noted that achieving these goals requires effective local leadership willing to cooperate with various stakeholders in the province. It highlighted the importance of prioritizing the fulfillment of promises made regarding the comprehensive treatment of war wounded and families of martyrs, emphasizing that this issue should be a top priority to ensure justice and societal balance.

On August 27, President Al-Alimi, accompanied by members of the Leadership Council, Abdullah Al-Alimi and Othman Mejalli, visited Taiz for a two-day trip, deemed historic due to the province's current circumstances.

During his visit, President Al-Alimi laid the foundation stone for over 260 development and service projects funded by the government, local authorities, agencies, and international organizations in Taiz, according to the official Yemeni News Agency (Saba).

According to Saba, the projects, initiated alongside members of the Leadership Council, Abdullah Al-Alimi and Othman Mejalli, cover various vital sectors, including 104 externally funded projects with a total cost of $23,297,756, and 156 projects funded by the government and local authorities with an estimated cost of approximately 6 billion Yemeni riyals.
