Government forces have made significant progress in the "Shawkan" front in the Mawiah district, south-east of Taiz governorate, according to military sources on Sunday, September 8th, 2024.

The sources told "Barran Press" that forces comprised of the Giants Brigade, the National Resistance, and supporting units achieved a tactical advance in the "Shawkan" front early Sunday morning.

The advance followed attempts by Houthi rebels, designated as a terrorist group by the international community, to advance in the "Ahama" area bordering Mawiah in Taiz, which administratively belongs to the Musaimeer district in Lahj governorate.

The sources indicated that the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels had planted mines in the roads of the "Shawkan" area and kidnapped civilians in recent hours.

Following the Houthi attempts to advance towards "Shawkan," which witnessed clashes in recent days, the Giants Brigade reinforced its positions. The Houthis had been mobilizing towards wide areas in the Musaimeer district in Lahj, bordering Mawiah in Taiz and Al-Azariq in Dhale' governorate.

Last Friday, September 6th, military sources reported that Houthi rebels launched an attack on military positions in the Musaimeer district.

The sources stated that the Houthi rebels launched a surprise attack on resistance positions in Musaimeer, capturing two positions, "Al-Barada" and "Rawaheh," in the "Ahama" area, after six hours of fighting.

Regarding casualties, sources reported deaths and injuries on both sides. The names of three injured resistance fighters were confirmed: "Fadl Harbi Al-Shibi," "Noah Al-Abadi," and "Badr Sadeq."

Four other fighters were reported missing, with sources suggesting they may have been captured by the Houthis. These fighters are: "Mohsen Al-Shibi," "Yahya Al-Shibi," "Hamza Al-Shibi," and "Malek Ahmed."

It's worth noting that the fronts in Musaimeer, Lahj governorate, have been relatively quiet for years since most of the district was liberated from the Houthi rebels in 2025. However, occasional artillery exchanges have taken place in the area.
