On September 8, 2024, a local source reported that various species of river and reservoir fish have recently arrived in the Rahba district of Marib, northeastern Yemen.

The source told Barran Press that residents of Rahba have begun fishing daily in the flowing waters leading from Wadi Nab’a to the Marib Dam. They explained that the continuous flow of water into the dam has allowed fish to swim upstream, reaching Rahba, which is approximately 60 kilometers away.

Residents in areas along the banks of the tributaries feeding into the Marib Dam have traditionally fished during the rainy season. The sustained water flow enables fish to navigate against the current for weeks or even months, allowing them to reach distant locations.

Barran Press obtained a video showing local fishermen from Wadi Nab’a catching fish from the waters flowing into the Marib Dam during this year's rainy season.

This year, the Marib Dam experienced significant inflows during the rainy months of July and August, with floods originating from distant areas in southern and western Marib, southeastern Sana’a, and northern Al-Bayda, prompting the dam management to open a drainage channel at the end of last month to lower water levels as the influx continued.
