Taiz Governorate, located in southwestern Yemen, marked the beginning of celebrations for the Yemeni Revolution on Thursday, September 19, 2024. The festivities, commemorating the September 26th, October 14th, and November 30th revolutions, kicked off with school festivals and the illumination of the historic Cairo Citadel.
Governor Nabil Shamsan officially launched the celebrations, which he described as "ongoing." He highlighted the initial events held at Al-Hakimi and Mohammed Al-Dara schools, along with various cultural and patriotic activities.
Shamsan emphasized the significance of commemorating the Yemeni Revolution, viewing it as a tribute to the heroic sacrifices of freedom fighters who fought to dismantle the injustices, backwardness, and imamate-driven racism of the past. These struggles, he stated, paved the way for a republic built on freedom, democracy, justice, and equality.
The celebrations, according to Shamsan, also serve as a rejection of the "new and abhorrent imamate," a clear reference to the Houthi group, internationally recognized as a terrorist organization. He condemned the Houthis for plunging the nation into war and destruction to serve Iranian expansionist ambitions, utilizing regressive justifications that do not benefit Yemenis. He urged unity and resistance against their actions.
Shamsan highlighted the concurrent implementation of development projects across various sectors in Taiz, including sustainable initiatives in water, education, electricity, roads, and the rehabilitation of institutions and infrastructure. These efforts aim to restore the city's former glory following the extensive damage inflicted by the relentless war waged against this valiant governorate.
