On September 24, 2024, the mayyun Human Rights Organization reported that the Iran-backed Houthi group, classified as a terrorist organization by international authorities, has kidnapped more than 270 civilians in the capital, Sana'a, and several other provinces under its control. Among those abducted are journalists, educators, and activists who expressed their intention to celebrate the 62nd anniversary of the September 26 Revolution on social media.

In a statement reviewed by Barran Press, the organization condemned the Houthis for using their Ministry of Interior and its repressive apparatuses to intimidate and silence dissenting voices. The group’s actions are aimed at asserting control and quelling any opposition to their practices.

The organization strongly denounced the ongoing campaigns of repression and abduction, which have targeted over 270 civilians solely based on their social media posts. It also criticized the threats directed at civilians, particularly women, aimed at dissuading them from participating in planned public celebrations and raising the national flag—a tradition upheld by Yemenis for decades.

In recent days, the Houthis have launched a wave of abductions targeting activists and social and political figures, particularly in regions under their control, including Sana'a, Taiz, and Al-Hudaydah, in response to preparations for the September 26 anniversary celebrations.
