On the evening of Thursday, September 26, 2024, the Israel Defense Forces announced the killing of Mohammad Hussein Sorour, a commander in Hezbollah's air unit, in a "precise strike" near the Al-Qaim complex in southern Beirut.

According to media sources, this marks the fourth such attack in a week on the southern suburb, a known stronghold for the Iran-backed group.

Following the announcement of his death, insiders revealed that Sorour, who specialized in drone operations, had returned from Yemen just three days prior. His nom de guerre was "Abu Saleh," and he sustained severe injuries that ultimately led to his death, as reported by Al Arabiya.

Sorour was reportedly responsible for the air unit in Yemen and oversaw the launch of rockets and drones from that region. His return to Lebanon occurred only three days before the strike.

Additionally, AFP reported that Sorour held a degree in mathematics and had extended his role within Hezbollah beyond Lebanese territory. He was among the advisors sent by the group to Yemen to train Houthi rebels allied with Hezbollah and other regional organizations within Iran's sphere of influence.

The report noted that Sorour was close to Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and had been responsible for coordinating with Ali Hassan Berji, another leader assassinated by Israel in January in the southern Lebanese town of Kherbet Selm.

A recorded video aired by Saudi news channel Al Ikhbariya several years ago showed Sorour training Houthi fighters in Yemen, alongside two other Hezbollah members. The footage highlighted his role in instructing the recruits at an introductory level, suggesting that the training programs were structured across multiple levels, focusing on assassination techniques and what he referred to as "martyrdom operations."
