On September 27, 2024, Rashad Al-Alimi, President of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, commended the “distinguished” relationship with Russia and its steadfast support for constitutional legitimacy in the UN Security Council and other international forums.

Al-Alimi made these remarks during a meeting in New York with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, alongside Council member Othman Majli, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, as reported by the Yemeni news agency Saba.

The two sides discussed promising opportunities to expand the longstanding bilateral relations between Yemen and Russia, which date back nearly nine decades, and to enhance cooperation across various fields.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the current situation in Yemen and the mediation efforts led by Saudi Arabia and Oman to de-escalate tensions and initiate a comprehensive political process under UN auspices.

During the discussion, Lavrov expressed Russia's commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at ending the war in Yemen and restoring peace, stability, and development in the country. He also praised the recent communications between the two nations aimed at reviving joint ministerial committees and strengthening diplomatic relations for the benefit of both countries and their peoples.
