On Tuesday, October 1, the British Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported an incident occurring 64 nautical miles northwest of Hodeidah, Yemen, adding that authorities are currently investigating the matter.

The agency indicated that the vessel involved had reported four separate incidents nearby, but reassured that all crew members are safe. The ship is now heading towards its next designated port, according to a report from Reuters.

Since November 2023, the Iran-backed Houthi group, classified as a terrorist organization, has been launching missile and drone attacks against commercial shipping vessels in the Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and Gulf of Aden.

These assaults have led to increased marine insurance costs, prompting many international shipping companies to opt for the significantly longer route around the southern tip of Africa.

In response to the Houthi threats and to safeguard maritime navigation, the United States established a multinational coalition in December 2023. U.S. forces have been conducting periodic strikes against Houthi military targets in the region.
