The Masam project, part of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, reported on Tuesday that its teams removed a total of 5,962 landmines planted by the Houthi group across several Yemeni provinces in September 2024.
In a statement shared with Barran Press, the center noted that during the fourth week of September alone, 1,384 mines were cleared. Among these, the removed mines included two anti-personnel mines, six anti-tank mines, 1,375 unexploded ordnance, and one improvised explosive device.
Since the inception of the Masam project, a total of 463,673 landmines have been cleared from various regions, which were indiscriminately laid to target innocent civilians, including children, women, and the elderly.
According to United Nations reports, the Houthi group has planted approximately two million landmines in areas under their control, resulting in over 20,000 civilian casualties, the majority of whom are women and children. rights organizations have accused the Houthis of turning Yemen into "the largest minefield in history" by planting more than two million mines. These organizations have repeatedly called on the Houthi group to provide maps of the landmines for clearance efforts by demining organizations.
