On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, local sources in Abyan governorate, southern Yemen, reported that a civilian was injured during an exchange of gunfire between armed assailants and the security detail guarding the home of a leader in the Security Belt Forces affiliated with the Southern Transition Council. The incident occurred in the Loder district, northwest of the governorate.

According to sources speaking to "Barran Press," the civilian was injured while passing by the residence of Security Belt leader Saddam Gharama, which came under fire from unidentified gunmen. The situation escalated into a shootout with the home’s security personnel.

The attackers reportedly arrived on a motorcycle shortly before sunset. The injured civilian was transported to Loder Hospital for treatment, although no further details about his condition were available. The Security Belt Forces have not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.

Gharama is a leader within the Security Belt Forces in Loder and had previously sustained serious injuries in an armed attack on his home on February 21. Several of his companions were also wounded in that incident.

Tribes in the district have accused Saddam Gharama of killing one of their members and allege that he has exploited the influence of the Southern Transition Council, which has controlled the district for the past two years, to settle scores with families opposed to the council's presence in the area.
