A diplomatic source reported on Saturday, October 5, 2024, that a Yemeni doctor and his mother were killed in ongoing Israeli airstrikes targeting their home in the southern suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon.

Abdulrahman Al-Ashwal, former media officer at the Yemeni embassy in Beirut, confirmed that Dr. Ali Al-Haj was killed alongside his mother on Friday when Israeli bombardment struck their house in the village of Al-Rafid in the western Bekaa region.

Al-Ashwal stated that the airstrikes impacted residential homes in a Sunni rural area far from the border with Palestinian territories, resulting in multiple civilian casualties.

He emphasized that the area "does not host any Hezbollah elements or camps, as it is a Sunni rural region distant from the border with Palestine."

According to Al-Ashwal, Dr. Al-Haj was a member of the Yemeni community in Lebanon, with a Yemeni father from the Ibb Governorate and a Lebanese mother from the Bekaa Valley. He noted that Al-Haj was the oldest among his siblings, known for his social activism and close relationships with others, frequently visiting the embassy to discuss his educational affairs.

Yemenis residing in Lebanon are facing dire conditions amid the ongoing Israeli attacks on Beirut.

Earlier, the Yemeni embassy in Beirut announced that air evacuation operations had been hindered, and they were seeking alternatives for land evacuation through Syria and Jordan.

In a statement, the embassy urged citizens who could not book commercial flights to contact them for alternative land travel solutions to Syria and Jordan. They requested those interested in traveling by land to register their names and phone numbers and send a copy of their passports, noting that they would coordinate with the Syrian and Jordanian embassies to obtain the necessary visas.
