Yemeni Defense Minister Mohsen al-Daeri met with the Secretary-General of the Islamic Military Counter-Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC), Mohammed al-Magidi, in Riyadh on Monday, October 7th, 2024, to discuss strengthening cooperation. Minister al-Daeri praised Saudi Arabia's leadership role in establishing the IMCTC and its significant contributions to combating terrorism.

The meeting, held at the IMCTC headquarters, focused on the coalition's crucial role in countering terrorism, a significant threat to numerous countries, including Yemen, according to the official Yemeni news agency Saba. Al-Magidi briefed al-Daeri on the IMCTC's multifaceted efforts, encompassing ideological, media, and military counter-terrorism strategies, as well as efforts to disrupt terrorist financing and coordinate member states' actions. He highlighted the coalition's central role in serving the interests of its member states in combating terrorism in all its forms.

Al-Magidi emphasized that the IMCTC operates as a comprehensive system designed to enhance cooperation among member states, underpinned by principles of legitimacy, independence, coordination, and participation. He stressed the coalition's commitment to ensuring that all its counter-terrorism activities comply with international laws and norms.

The IMCTC, established by Saudi Arabia on December 15th, 2015, initially comprised 34 member states and has since grown to 39. Its mandate includes leading and coordinating counter-terrorism operations from its Riyadh headquarters. The coalition's formation was based on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation's (OIC) agreement to combat terrorism in all its forms, protect the Muslim world from terrorist groups, and eliminate the root causes of terrorism, according to a statement released by the Saudi Press Agency at the time.
