Sources close to the family of Yemeni journalist and writer Mohammed Dabwan al-Miyahi have denied reports circulating on social media of his death in Houthi prison, stating that he remains in detention in Sana'a. The denial was reported on Monday, October 7th, 2024, by Xinhua news agency correspondent in Yemen, Fares Alhemyari.

Alhemyari cited family sources as confirming that al-Miyahi is still imprisoned, having been arrested in September following a raid on his Sana'a apartment. The family reportedly received assurances that a visit would be permitted in the coming days.

Earlier on Monday, several Yemeni activists shared unverified reports of al-Miyahi's death under torture. These reports drew widespread condemnation, especially given their lack of official confirmation or corroboration from the family.

Al-Miyahi was abducted by Houthi fighters on September 20th, 2024, two days after publishing an article criticizing the group and a speech by their leader at a Prophet Muhammad's birthday celebration. Armed Houthi members, accompanied by women, raided his home, seizing his electronic devices before taking him to an undisclosed location. His article criticized the Houthis' approach to the celebration and the speech delivered by their leader, Abdulmalik al-Houthi.
