Local sources reported that the Houthi group, classified as a terrorist organization by international bodies, has stormed and closed the main center of the Da'wah and Tabligh ( Call and Preaching) group in Al-Hodeidah, western Yemen, which serves as the group's primary stronghold in the country.
According to sources, Houthi militants raided the center, expelling over 500 students who were present at the time. These students came from various Yemeni provinces to participate in the center's activities.
The Houthis not only closed the center but also confiscated all its contents. The Al-Hodeidah center is the largest of its kind for the Dawah and Tabligh group in Yemen, established in the 1990s, and previously hosted an annual conference that has been halted by the Houthis in recent years.
The Da'wah and Tabligh group has faced significant harassment from the Houthis in the past, including restrictions on their events and the detention of some members. In late 2020, the Houthi-controlled Ministry of Endowments issued a decree prohibiting the activities of the Da'wah and Tabligh group in Sana'a and other areas under Houthi control.
The Da'wah and Tabligh group in Yemen is an extension of a religious movement founded in India in the 1920s. Its followers have distanced themselves from involvement in the ongoing conflict, focusing solely on religious outreach in mosques rather than engaging in political activities.
