The Russian government has called for active international efforts to address the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Yemen and to resume work on the "roadmap" for resolving the Yemeni crisis.

This appeal was made during a meeting in Moscow between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin and the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg.

According to a statement released by the Russian embassy in Yemen, which was shared on the social media platform X and followed by Bran Press, the meeting discussed practical steps to revitalize the political process in Yemen, despite the growing instability in the Middle East.

The Russian embassy emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of international shipping while highlighting that airstrikes by the U.S.-led coalition in the Red Sea and against Yemeni territory violate international law and hinder the prospects for peace in Yemen.

Both sides affirmed that there is no alternative to a political and diplomatic approach to resolving the conflict among Yemenis, taking into account the interests of the country's main political forces.

On October 11, the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, visited Moscow and met with Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin. Grundberg expressed deep concern over the escalating regional tensions in the Middle East and their impact on Yemen, stressing the necessity of international cooperation and diplomatic efforts as the only means to alter the troubling trajectory affecting Yemen, the Red Sea, and the broader region.

He also provided an update on his communications with regional parties and the efforts of his office on political, security, and economic fronts, discussing ways to strengthen commitments to a comprehensive peace roadmap for Yemen despite the current escalatory conditions.

On December 23 of last year, the UN announced that Yemeni parties had reached agreements to adhere to a set of measures, including a nationwide ceasefire, improving living conditions, and preparing for a resumption of inclusive political processes under UN auspices.

However, the roadmap and peace efforts have stalled due to attacks by the Iran-aligned Houthi group on commercial shipping in the Red and Arabian Seas and the Gulf of Aden since November.
