U.S. Officials: Israel Identifies Targets in Response to Iranian Attack

Barran Press

American officials reported on Saturday that Israel has outlined its intended targets in response to the recent Iranian attack, which they describe as “military infrastructure and other facilities linked to Iran's energy system.”

In statements published by NBC News, the officials noted that there is no indication Israel plans to target nuclear facilities or carry out assassinations. They confirmed that a final decision regarding the timing and method of Israel's response has yet to be made.

The U.S. officials stated they are unsure when the Israeli response might occur but emphasized that the Israeli military is prepared to act at any moment once given the order. They clarified that they do not have information suggesting that a response is imminent, acknowledging that Israel has not shared a specific timeline with them.

Some U.S. and Israeli officials indicated that a response could come during Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. They added that while Israel has provided more information about its plans to the U.S., many details remain classified due to operational security concerns.

The United States is preparing to defend its interests in the region against any immediate retaliatory attacks from Iran, though direct military support for the operation is unlikely.

On October 1, Iran launched approximately 200 missiles at Israel in what it called a retaliatory strike for the assassination of Hezbollah's Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah and the death of an Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander alongside him. Since then, Israel has vowed to respond, with Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stating that the retaliation will be “devastating, precise, and surprising.”
