Military sources reported that Colonel Ahmed Mohsen Al-Sulaimani, the Chief of Staff of the First Shabwa Defense Brigade affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council, was killed in an explosion caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) in Shabwa province, eastern Yemen.
According to sources speaking to Barran Press, Al-Sulaimani's vehicle was targeted while he was visiting a Shabwa Defense Forces site in the Musaynah area of the Saeed district. The explosion resulted in his immediate death, and his body was subsequently transported to the Shabwa General Hospital in the city of Ataq, the provincial capital.
Saeed Thabit Al-Awlaqi, the official spokesperson for the Southern Transitional Council, confirmed Al-Sulaimani's death in a post, describing it as a "treacherous terrorist ambush" and a significant loss for the council.
The Shabwa Defense Forces, which operate under the Southern Transitional Council, were established with support from the United Arab Emirates in late 2021 and early 2022. They are deployed across Shabwa province and parts of Marib and Al-Bayda provinces.
