In areas under the control of the internationally recognized Yemeni government, at least ten people fall victim to traffic accidents every day, according to the Yemeni Ministry of Interior on October 26, 2024. The ministry described the trend as a "silent war" that the community faces.

Major General Omar Bamashmous, Director General of Traffic Police, said: "The liberated provinces recorded 1,111 traffic incidents in the third quarter of this year, with a total of 1,213 casualties between fatalities and serious injuries.

Bamashmous elaborated, in a statement received by the Security Media: "176 citizens died, and 1,037 others were injured as a result of traffic accidents; 371 of them had severe injuries, which led to permanent disabilities, while 666 others sustained minor or moderate ones.".

He also explained that these accidents resulted in material losses of about 752,635,000 Yemeni rials, not to mention the cost of medical bills, compensation for death, or the psychological and social impacts that heightened the victims' and their families' suffering.

The kinds of accidents were comprised of collisions between vehicles, which came to 693; running over pedestrians, which came to 228; vehicle rollovers, at 152; falling from the vehicles, at 13; fire incidents, at three; collisions with fixed objects, at two; and vehicle shunt accidents, at two.

Bamashmous asked road users, "Is this not the right time to obey traffic laws, rules, and etiquette, and to safely and optimally use the roads and thereby reduce the burden of the dumb war and consequences on human and material resources?

He called upon official and community organizations, including media and social institutions, to play an effective role in raising awareness and disseminating the culture of traffic safety to protect souls and properties. He also called upon traffic officers and police in the provinces to develop their field efforts and activities in ways toward reducing accidents and alleviating congestion of the roads, along with the implementation of regulations.
