Rashad Alimi, President of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, arrived in Egypt on November 3, 2024, to participate in the World Urban Forum at the invitation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi for the opening of the 12th session of the forum.

According to the official Yemeni News Agency Saba, Alimi is scheduled to deliver a speech highlighting local development efforts, the structural and financial pressures imposed by the Houthi group—classified as a terrorist organization—and the significant destruction inflicted on Yemen's infrastructure and essential services. He will also address the resulting displacement of millions of Yemenis.

In his remarks, Alimi will discuss the catastrophic effects of climate change, and the crucial role of regional allies, and international partners in supporting reconstruction efforts. He will outline the government’s plans concerning housing, public services, and responses to mitigate climate change impacts while aligning with global efforts to achieve sustainable development goals.

The Yemeni delegation attending the forum includes Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidency Office, presidential advisor Nasr Taha Mustafa, Foreign Minister Dr. Shaa'ib Al-Zandani, and Minister of Public Works and Roads Engineer Salem Al-Huraizi.

This year’s forum, which has attracted around 30,000 participants, is themed "Everything Starts Locally - Let’s Work Together for Sustainable Cities and Communities." It aims to promote dialogue on making cities more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable by sharing experiences and ideas from various stakeholders, including governments, civil society, the private sector, and experts in multiple fields.
