Marib, Yemen – A tribal mediation effort in Marib (northeastern Yemen) has successfully defused tensions between the Al-Muaili and Al-Damashqa clans, according to a tribal source on Friday, November 29, 2024.

The source informed Barran Press that a mediation group from the tribes of Marib and Al-Jawf, led by Sheikh Amin Al-Okaimi, was able to halt hostilities between the two factions. An agreement was reached for a four-day ceasefire, which commenced at sunset on the same day.

Sheikh Al-Okaimi reportedly took four automatic firearms from both the Al-Damashqa and Al-Muaili clans as a gesture of goodwill and presented one automatic weapon to the Al-Muaili in exchange for their commitment to the ceasefire and a pledge to refrain from any escalatory actions during this period.

The mediation aims to find satisfactory solutions for both parties to ensure that hostilities do not resume and to appoint an elder who can adjudicate disputes between the two clans.

Earlier on Thursday, Hamad bin Muhammad Al-Muaili Al-Obeidi was killed, and his son, Amin Hamad Muhammad Al-Muaili, along with driver Mufrah bin Hamad Zabar, was injured in an ambush by armed members of the Al-Damashqa tribe in the Al-Jaishiya area of Marib, stemming from a tribal feud that has lasted for nearly thirty years.

Violent clashes erupted on Thursday evening and continued into the night between the Al-Rashed Muneef and Al-Damashqa clans following Al-Muaili's death, resulting in several injuries, including a woman from the Al-Jarmi family, and the burning of an Al-Jarmi home in the Al-Wadi district of eastern Marib.
