Beijing, China – The Ministry of Higher Education in Yemen's internationally recognized government announced on Friday, November 29, 2024, that it has signed a partnership agreement with China University of Petroleum aimed at reducing tuition fees for Yemeni students.
According to a statement published on the ministry's Facebook account which was monitored by Barran Press, the agreement was signed at the Yemeni Cultural Attaché in Beijing by Dr. Mohammed Al-Ahmadi, the cultural advisor at the Yemeni embassy.
The statement noted that the agreement seeks to enhance academic and cultural cooperation between Yemen and China, including provisions for tuition reductions for Yemeni students, contingent upon prior approval from the cultural attaché.
The Ministry of Higher Education expressed optimism that this initiative will alleviate financial burdens on Yemeni students and encourage them to pursue higher education at Chinese academic institutions.
The agreement also emphasizes expanding research and academic collaboration by facilitating visits from Yemeni universities to Shandong University and fostering partnerships between Yemeni researchers and their counterparts at Shandong University. This collaboration aims to support knowledge exchange and implement joint research projects that align with development priorities in both countries.
According to the ministry, this agreement is part of broader efforts to enhance educational and cultural cooperation between Yemen and China, creating new pathways for academic exchange that contribute to human capacity development and support sustainable development initiatives.
