Thousands of residents from Radfan in Lahj province, southern Yemen, gathered on Saturday, December 7, 2024, to mourn a young man who was killed under mysterious circumstances two years ago. The family of Majid Rashda Al-Radfani accuses a military leader affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council of orchestrating his assassination and disposing of his body in a local valley.
According to a reporter from Barran Press, the funeral for Majid Rashda transformed into a furious demonstration against the commander of the Fifth Support and Reinforcement Brigade, known as Mukhtar Al-Nubi.
The funeral procession drew attendees from various districts of Radfan and neighboring provinces, including social dignitaries. Mourners chanted angry slogans denouncing Al-Nubi and demanding justice for Rashda and all victims of violence.
Following the burial of Rashda at the Martyrs’ Cemetery in the Habilain district, a group of mourners organized a motorcycle rally through the streets, expressing their outrage over the heinous crime committed by soldiers from the Fifth Brigade.
Local sources revealed that Majid Rashda was a member of the Southern Movement and was abducted from the Yafa region on December 9, 2022. His body was discovered days later in a Radfan valley.
The family of Rashda alleges that the Fifth Brigade, affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council, is responsible for his murder and the mutilation of his body, which was found bound and disfigured near the main road in the Habilain district.
Forensic reports indicated that Rashda had suffered seven gunshot wounds, confirming that he was executed, and his body remained at Al-Nasr Hospital in the Al-Dhale province.
