On December 8, 2024, Yemen's Ministry of Interior, part of the internationally recognized government, announced the launch of the first phase of its electronic civil registry project.

According to the ministry's official website, the initial phase will focus on the city of Aden, which serves as the temporary capital of Yemen. Future phases are planned to extend the project to all liberated provinces.

This initiative aligns with the ministry's efforts toward digital transformation, following the introduction of a smart card aimed at facilitating citizens' access to essential documentation, including nationality certificates, legal identification, and family-related documents such as birth and death certificates, marriage registrations, and divorce records.

Colonel Badr Ba'alawi, the Director General of the Civil Registry, stated that the new system is designed to enhance service efficiency, ensure data protection, and save time and effort. The documents will also feature security markers to prevent forgery and manipulation.
