On December 12, 2024, military sources reported that two members of the Iran-backed Houthi group were killed and several others injured as Yemeni army forces successfully repelled Houthi attacks in the Taiz governorate, located in southwestern Yemen.

According to a statement from the Taiz military axis, Yemeni troops thwarted three infiltration attempts by the Houthis, resulting in the deaths of two militants and a number of injuries within their ranks.

The statement further indicated that the army targeted Houthi artillery positions, which had been shelling residential areas in the city of Taiz and the western rural regions of the governorate.

Earlier, on December 5, 2024, the Giants Brigades announced they had successfully defended against a series of Houthi assaults in Taiz. The southern media center for the Giants Brigades reported that Houthi forces launched attacks on several villages in the Al-Shamir district of the Moqbna area, employing drones, artillery, and medium-caliber weapons.

The center noted that the Giants Brigades effectively countered the attacks in the "Barasha" and "Saqm" areas, inflicting casualties on Houthi forces in both personnel and equipment. They continue their efforts to repel ongoing Houthi offensives along the western coastline.

Fighting in Taiz remains intermittent, with continuous infiltration attempts by Houthi elements. The Taiz military axis reported that its forces thwarted 16 infiltration attempts by the Houthis across various fronts in the governorate during November.
