On December 16, 2024, the local authority in Sana'a, under the internationally recognized Yemeni government, issued a warning regarding documents and contracts that the Houthi movement, classified as a terrorist organization, is using to manage public and private properties in the capital. The authority deemed these documents "illegal."
In a statement reviewed by Barran Press, the authority asserted that "the contracts and documents related to this matter are entirely unlawful and carry no legal weight, as they arise from illegal actions and are issued by a terrorist and illegitimate authority."
The statement further classified dealing with these documents as "a criminal act and a betrayal of the nation," urging the public to refrain from any purchasing activities or signing contracts related to such documents.
The local government emphasized that the properties managed by the Houthis are "considered looted or purchased with public and private funds, which are fundamentally stolen assets."
In its statement, the local authority announced that it is closely monitoring the various violations perpetrated by the Houthi group, highlighting systematic corruption and mismanagement in Sana'a across multiple sectors.
The authority condemned the group's practices, including "forgery, looting, and confiscation of public and private properties, including state-owned assets and lands, which have been stripped of their rightful status and appropriated by Houthi leaders and supervisors or replaced with close affiliates using force."
Additionally, the statement noted incidents of the Houthis illegally seizing state lands and converting them into private property for their leaders and sectarian affiliates under various investment and commercial pretenses, alongside the confiscation of private ownership.
