The President of Yemen's Supreme Judiciary Council, Judge Mohsen Yahya Talib Abu Bakr, has issued a directive prohibiting members of the judiciary from engaging in media publications and social media participation. This decision, which was communicated in a memo to the Chief of the Judicial Inspection Authority, was made public on December 17, 2024.

The directive explicitly bans judiciary members from publishing, sharing, or commenting on any electronic platforms and social media regarding public affairs, political and social events, or related initiatives.

Additionally, the ruling prohibits judicial members from attending events such as conferences, workshops, and seminars—both domestically and internationally—that do not pertain to the judiciary.

Judges are also barred from expressing opinions or comments on any cases currently before the courts, including judgments issued by themselves or other judges, as well as communications or investigations handled by the public prosecution.

Violating these restrictions will result in disciplinary action in accordance with the applicable judicial authority law and related decisions from the Supreme Judiciary Council.

This move follows reports from November indicating that Judge Rawah Mujahid had her salary suspended by the council due to her critical writings regarding judicial corruption on social media and her role as acting head of the Yemeni Judges' Club.

The Supreme Judiciary Council justified the suspension of Judge Mujahid's salary by stating she had not complied with a transfer order to work at Sheikh Othman Court issued over a year ago. However, sources close to the judge indicated that the original transfer order was issued under an incorrect name, leading her to seek clarification from the council, which denied the existence of such an order at the time.

Despite the confusion, Judge Mujahid continued her work at the Yemeni Judges' Club, believing her official status remained valid, until she was later surprised by the correction of her name in the old transfer order and the suspension of her salary for alleged non-compliance.
