On December 20, 2024, Yemen is bracing for a severe cold snap, with temperatures expected to drop to freezing levels in the provinces of Al-Bayda and Dhamar, according to the National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning.
The center's latest weather report indicates that the mountainous regions will experience extremely cold conditions overnight and early morning, particularly in Al-Bayda, Dhamar, Sana'a, Amran, and Saada, raising the possibility of frost formation.
Forecasts predict that temperatures could reach as low as zero degrees Celsius in Al-Bayda and Dhamar, two degrees in Saada and Amran, and three degrees in Sana'a by Saturday morning.
The center also warned of relatively cold weather in the highlands of Ibb, Al-Dhale, Lahij, and Abyan, as well as in the plateaus and deserts of Al-Mahrah, Hadramout, Shabwa, Marib, and Al-Jawf. Cooler temperatures are expected in the highlands of Hajjah, Al-Mahwit, Raymah, and Taiz, with mostly clear to partly cloudy conditions during the day.
In coastal areas, relatively cool and clear weather is anticipated along the eastern coasts, while the western coasts will see partly cloudy skies. The southern coasts and Socotra Archipelago are expected to experience similar conditions, with moderate to brisk winds ranging from 15 to 25 knots, causing rough seas and elevated waves.
The meteorological center urged citizens to take precautions against the cold, especially the elderly, children, and those with health issues. Farmers were advised to protect their crops from the harsh conditions and to ensure livestock, bees, and poultry are housed in warm, safe environments.
