In a move to address the ongoing plight of wounded soldiers and the families of martyrs, Rashad Alimi, the Chairman of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, has directed the establishment of a national authority dedicated to their care. This marks the third directive since the council's formation nearly three years ago.
The announcement was made during a council meeting on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, attended by all council members and Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, according to the official Yemeni news agency, Saba.
During the meeting, the council reiterated several directives to the government, including the creation of a national authority for the care of the wounded and the families of the fallen. Alimi initially called for establishing this body during his inaugural address to the parliament in Aden, emphasizing the need for comprehensive policies and resources to support this critical issue.
On May 22, 2022, Alimi urged the government to expedite the formation of a dedicated authority for the treatment of war injuries and establish a special fund for its operations. He expressed the urgency of addressing the needs of war casualties and their families.
Despite Alimi's persistent calls, the authority has yet to materialize, and no clarifications have been provided regarding the delays. Wounded soldiers have voiced frustrations over government neglect, citing inadequate healthcare, especially for those sent abroad for treatment due to severe injuries sustained in battles against the internationally designated terrorist group, the Houthis.
