NEW ORLEANS — On January 1, 2025, city authorities reported that at least ten people were killed and around 30 others injured when a vehicle crashed into a crowd during New Year’s Eve celebrations in New Orleans, Louisiana.

New Orleans police confirmed they were responding to a significant incident involving multiple casualties, advising the public to avoid the area. CBS News reported that the tragic event unfolded when a vehicle struck pedestrians on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter, a popular tourist destination.

The collision occurred around 3:15 a.m. at the intersection of Bourbon and Iberville streets. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and the area was subsequently closed off. Eyewitnesses told CBS News that the vehicle sped into the crowd before the driver exited and began firing at people, prompting police to return fire. However, CBS has not independently verified these claims.

This incident coincided with the city’s New Year celebrations, which typically attract large crowds. Bourbon Street, known for its vibrant nightlife and festivities, was expected to be bustling with revelers, with thousands in attendance for the holiday celebrations.
