MARIB, Yemen — On January 6, 2025, Abdu Rabbu Miftah, the Deputy Governor of Marib, stated that the land designated for the Al-Jufaina camp is private property that the owners have temporarily allowed displaced individuals to inhabit under exceptional circumstances. He emphasized that any transactions involving the land—whether selling, buying, or transferring—are strictly prohibited.
Miftah made these remarks during a comprehensive meeting with various officials to discuss service, security, and planning issues, as reported by the official Yemen News Agency, Saba.
The meeting focused on the humanitarian and service conditions at the Al-Jufaina temporary camp for displaced persons, which is the largest camp of its kind in Yemen, housing 17,418 displaced families.
The Deputy Governor urged local leaders and security agencies to swiftly address individuals attempting to broker or improperly manage the camp's land, as such actions infringe on the rights of others. He called for these individuals to be referred to judicial authorities for appropriate legal action.
During the discussions, Miftah commended the efforts being made to improve the humanitarian situation for the displaced, particularly regarding security, protection, and services in the ever-expanding Al-Jufaina camp.
He stressed the importance of enhancing coordination and communication between local leaders, security units, and local authorities to improve responses to information reports and strengthen the security and protection of both the displaced persons and landowners.
