MARIB, Yemen — On January 8, 2025, the Yemeni Army announced that its air defenses successfully shot down an "offensive" drone belonging to the Houthi group, which is internationally designated as a terrorist organization. The incident occurred in military positions located in the northwest region of Marib province, northeastern Yemen.

In a brief statement issued by the Armed Forces' media center, which was reported by Barran Press, the military indicated that the drone had been launched by the Houthis toward military sites in the area.

Earlier in the week, the Yemeni Army had reported observing movements of Houthi elements in several combat fronts within Marib province. According to the same media statement, the army noted the presence of Iranian-backed Houthi forces in various fronts to the south and west of Marib.

The media center also mentioned that the Yemeni Army was responding to "hostile" fire from the same fronts, although further details were not provided.
